Veteran actress and TV personality, Grace Omaboe, widely known as Maame Dokono, has said she faced challenges during her active political days.
Speaking at an event held at Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on July 30, 2024, to celebrate her 80th Birthday, Maame Dokono said the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, introduced her to politics.
She recounted the challenges she faced due to her political engagements, stating, “Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings dragged me into politics. I joined both parties and if your party doesn’t win, you suffer and I really suffered for it. So I left politics,” she said.
Maame Dokono also used the occasion to publicly deny longstanding rumours concerning a past relationship with the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
“Some said they heard that I was the girlfriend of President Rawlings. Who is that person? Ah. I was never the girlfriend of President Rawlings,” she clarified, putting to rest the persistent rumours.
The event also marked a celebration of Maame Dokono’s 80th birthday and her remarkable 60-year career in the Ghanaian movie industry.
She used the occasion to announce the upcoming launch of her new book on August 7, 2024.
The book will delve into various aspects of her life, including her experiences in the movie industry, her relationship with Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, and personal stories such as delivering all six of her children via Cesarean section.
