Even Rawlings Pounded Fufu for Votes - Mike Oquaye Jnr. Answers Critics on Washing for Votes

The NPP parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Mike Oquaye Jnr. has justified his viral video of washing what looks like underwear for a lady during a door-to-door campaign.

According to him, he draws inspiration from Ghana's former president, Late John Jerry Rawlings on how he relates to the electorates for their votes.

Despite criticisms from netizens, Mike Oquaye Jnr. says he sees nothing wrong with his adopted strategy which he believes will create a bond between himself and his constituency.

“While touring the constituency, I entered a house and saw this lady washing, so I picked up shorts to help her wash. People are complaining but ask me for the purpose, as a politician, I want my people to know me and also do things for my people,” he explained.

The Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary candidate further told NEAT FM's morning show, 'Ghana Montie' that, if the late Jerry John Rawlings can relate to the people to canvas for votes, then he is no exception.

“Rawlings was then going to people's houses to pound fufu for the people. If not for politics, will Rawlings come to your house to pound fufu? As a politician, you need to go to the people's level and let them feel comfortable so they can vote for you,” he told host Mc Jerry Osei-Agyemang.
