Dr. Bawumia Set to Visit Pope Francis at the Vatican

Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is embarking on a working visit to Italy and the Vatican, in Rome. 

In a letter dated Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Vice President Bawumia departed Ghana on Monday evening April 22.

The purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the working relation between the Republic of Ghana, the Republic of Italy, and the Vatican State. 

As part of the bilateral talks, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to pay a courtesy call on His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican state. 

Excerpts of the release reads, "Dr. Bawumia is scheduled to hold bilateral talks, including with His Holiness Pope Francis. The Pope's message of love, mercy and inclusion, which he has devoted himself to promoting unity and mutual understanding between people has been embraced around the world."

The meeting is expected to highlight the common principles of peace, justice and solidarity which is needed to guide the country into a better future.

The release which was signed by the spokesperson to the vice president, Dr. Gideon Boako further noted that, Dr. Bawumia's diplomatic visit are parts of his effort to strengthen the connections between the global communities.

Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by some government officials and is expected to return on Thursday, April 25.
