The National House of Chiefs has donated to support the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
Their donation was in response to an appeal by Staff of Despite Media Group together with TMW Foundation, for assistance from individuals and corporate bodies to help resettle residents displayed by the recent Akosombo Dam spillage.
Communities along the Volta Basin and areas in Oti Region among others were affected by the spillage that occurred as a result of the dam almost filling up to the brim.
The authorities of the Volta River Authority made a tough but necessary decision to spill water from the dam to avoid its collapse and this caused floods in the nearby communities.
Over 30000 people were displaced and have been kept in makeshift shelters by the authorities with the government, NADMO, VRA, Despite Media and several other individuals and entities providing aid to them.
On Friday, November 17, the National House of Chiefs led by its President, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, Sefwi Anhwiabohene, visited Peace FM and, on Kokrokoo show hosted by Kwami Sefa Kayi, donated GHC 100000 to assist the victims.
The management of the station gleefully received the donation on behalf of the victims and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chiefs.
The delegation included President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Mprah Besemuna III (Krachiwura), Odeefo) Amoakwa Buadu VIII, Bremanhene Asikuma who doubles as President of the House of Chiefs in Central Region, Anthony Yeboah Tabiri and Paul Asante, Registrar and Accountant of the National House of Chiefs respectively.
